During the 2020 holiday season, I was yearning for an escape, so Shoko Kamabara, Alex Hawthorn, and myself created a virtual version of the beloved nutcracker fable. This classic story was turned into a two-act ballet in 1892 from E. T. A. Hoffmann’s 1816 story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” and with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
For our reconceptualized version Shoko created the backgrounds and animation, Alex the music, and I created the characters. In creating the designs, I incorporated inspiration from modern fashion, costume history, armor, and classic ballet looks.
We are hoping to create a live version in 2021.

Fresh out of college I was asked to style a video for the new band “New Kids on the Block”. I started the process of styling the video by meeting them at a midtown hotel, and then took them shopping all over Manhattan. I combined the shopping finds with items from my archive and the latest collection by Stephen Sprouse to develop a look for each band member. The performance sections of the video was shot at the legendary club CBGB’s and the amusement park images at Coney Island.
Virtual dream inauguration gown designs to commemorate the swearing-in of the 46th President and Vice President of the United States. The figure turns 360 degrees and travels in and around Washington DC from day into night as the design morphs from location to location and reveals multiple design possibilities. Animation and backgrounds by Shoko Kambara , music by Ales Hawthorn, and fashion design by me!
